I'm Dawnelle Arthur, the creator of AgeDEFY Movement Therapy for Injured and Aging Movers. Let me share a bit of my story with you.
At age 40, after teaching yoga for 12 years, I got hit with the news that both hips needed replacing. It was a tough pill to swallow, and I'll admit, I spent a few months feeling devastated.
After the tears and anxiety, I decided to get off the bathroom floor, step off the yoga mat, and get to work crafting a movement therapy program tailored specifically for my hips.
I spent my pain years working on AgeDEFY.
When I stopped teaching traditional yoga, I became a certified health coach, orthopedic exercise specialist, mobility and strength coach, and lymphatic health specialist.
Stepping away from teaching yoga, I embraced the role of a multi-movement specialist, and that's how I've evolved into the coach and movement therapist I am today.
After five years of battling chronic pain, a noticeable limp, and grappling with grade three arthritis, torn labrum, avascular necrosis, and acetabular cyst in both hips, I decided to go for hip replacements at the age of 45.
Now, I'm 50 and moving better than I was in my 30s when teaching yoga daily.
I've poured my heart and soul into AgeDEFY because I understand pain. I have multiple certifications and a bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, but my pain story makes me the coach I am today.
